The idea of holding a festival in Beaudesert had long been discussed and pondered over by many people within the community, but it was not until a progressive thinking woman by the name of Julie Moor constructively put forward the idea that it finally came to fruition.A public meeting was called in 1996 and a commitee of community members was with the purpose of conducting a festival for the Shire of Beaudesert. The Shire had been struck with many devastating events, including the closing of its main industry a five year drought, and a fire which destroyed a historical part of the town, and many businesses were effected. The spirits of the community needed up lifting as did the economic climate of the region, and the Tourism Industry also was lacking a key focus for the district.
Thus was born the Beaudesert Country & Horse Festival, held over ten days it contains over 30 different events, and each year this number grows with more community organisations taking part, and thus benefiting. Not only do these groups gain financially but their coming together for this bonds the community as one which is very important in this time of change and indifference. The aims of the festival committee is to position Beaudesert Shire as a prominent visitors destination by presenting a unique rural lifestyle event and has the potential to become Australia's premier Equine Festival through its diversity of displays, competitions, cultural events and tourist attractions and to be a major catalyst in creating economic and cultural benefits for the Beaudesert regional community by attracting tourists and support funding for the presentation of the annual Festival that promotes the region's strengths, unique rural lifestyle, tourist attractions and diverse horse industry. |
